Novice – Program Overview
Hello and welcome to the 2016-2017 KMHA season. As the convenor for Novice, I am responsible for the daily operation of the Novice house league program which encompasses children born in 2008 & 2009. I look forward to contributing to a successful season for our players and volunteers.
Important Notice: At least one parent or guardian of a participant of each household at the IP and Novice levels, regardless whether first, second or third year of participation, and those parents or guardians of new registrants up to midget level, must take the on-line “Respect in Sport Parent Program”. If you have completed this course last year, you will not need to complete this again.
This is a 1 hour online course, cost is $12.00. 1 parent or legal guardian per household must complete before September 1st or their player will not be able to go on the ice until completed. Please note, if you have taken respect in sport in the past as a coach or team official, you must also take this version (the Parent version) click here to take the program https://heoparent.respectgroupinc.com/secure/

Before Sort Outs
I will receive the list of registered players from the KMHA Registrar in mid-August. Once received, I will communicate with families and provide the sort out schedule.
Sort Outs
Over 2 consecutive weekends, each player will be assigned a specific time for Saturday and Sunday of each weekend.
The sort outs will be unbiased. We will balance the teams within each level (A, B & C) to the best of our ability. We will not permit friend requests to influence team composition and/or to potentially create an imbalance.
Volunteers Needed
To ensure another successful year, I am looking for volunteers in any capacity. If you are only available short term to help during sort outs or would be available for a full season commitment, there are many opportunities to help out. To volunteer for any of the positions below, please send me an email at noviceconvenor@kmha.ca
Sortout Volunteers
- Registration Desk
- Ice General
- Evaluators
- On Ice Stations
- On Ice Shepherds (Great opportunity for students looking for volunteer hours)
- Others
Volunteers will be required to participate on one of the two weekends, all day for both days. (Typically consists of 7 hours each day)
Throughout the Season
- Coaches
- Assistant Coaches
- Goalie Coaches
- Trainers
- Managers
Please note that all team volunteer positions are subject to a completed policy check (no cost to you)
http://kmha.ca/risk-and-safety/police-checks/
Police record checks are valid for 3 years
Team volunteers are also required to complete the Speakout course (at no cost to you)

After Sort Outs
Coaches
We will select a head coach for each team no sooner than the end of the second week of sort outs. That list will be submitted to the Director of House and VP of Hockey Programs for verification. We will attempt to place qualified assistant coaches, trainers and managers on each team list.
If you would like to be considered for a head coaching position, please let me know as soon as possible.
Throughout the Season
Novice A will interlock with Nepean after Christmas break. Novice B & C will not interlock.
Each team will be required to have affiliates, approximately 3 players from the level below to ensure a full bench at all practices and games.
Each team should receive 2 ice times per week.
Should you have any questions or concerns regarding the upcoming season, or would be interested in volunteering, do not hesitate to contact me at noviceconvenor@kmha.ca
Looking forward to a great season!
