Welcome to the 2017/18 season. We hope that you are excited about it as we are , and wish you all a great season

Player Development – Goalie Development

KMHA has provided additional goalie development programs for a number of years. Following consultation with a number of interested parties (parents of goalies, goalie coaches, head coaches) this was expanded in the 2010-2011 season with the following deliverables:

  • Access to one hour of on-ice instruction with a qualified goalie instructor (Travis O’Donnell) at least once per month for all goalies from Novice to Peewee. The instruction is scheduled for a week night in order to minimize the conflicts with other ice times the goalies have scheduled.
  • Mandatory goalie coaches on all KMHA teams. This coach must be identified as the goalie coach and be listed on the team roster.
  • Goalie coach instruction in the form of off-ice seminars and information. In 2011-2012 this will be managed by Dylan Tansey and will be expanded with additional focus on the goalie coaches and will include more seminars plus on-ice instruction for the goalie coaches.
  • Goalie coach mentors that provide assistance to goalie coaches by attending practices or meeting with goalie coaches. In 2010-2011 the KMHA mentors were Dylan Tansey, Al McFarland, Jason Shaw and John Labbé. For the upcoming season Jeff Heika and John Kennedy will also act as mentors. All teams can expect to see a mentor attend a practice at some point in the season.
